Pavilion Mural
About the Pavilion Mural
In Fall 2022, Urbancrest commissioned talented and renowned artist Marc Eckel to paint a mural on the entire west face of our outdoor pavilion. The mural depicts Jesus on the way to Golgotha, but also remind us of the hope we have in Him! Starting in June, 2023 Marc will be completing the gospel story with a depiction of our risen Savior! ‘He is risen from the dead’!
“But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
– Romans 5:8 (CSB)
About the Artist
Marc Eckel was an illustrator for General Motors in the Detroit area in 2000 when he was asked to create an image on an eight-foot canvas as a backdrop for special music at the Troy Baptist Church in Troy, Michigan. He was given three minutes to complete the task. With very limited time, he chose to bypass using paint brushes, using his bare hands to throw paint on the canvas. In 2002, after moving to northern Indiana, Marc Eckel was asked to think of something to add to the church Easter program at the First Baptist Church of Pierceton. A similar painting was created, which led to the start of Splat Experience, a Christian Performance Art Ministry, now a ministry division of Blue Spaghetti, LLC, a creative arts company. Marc’s wife, Juli, is the ministry’s business manager.
At the end of 2012, the ministry has created 20 different paintings and has performed nearly 900 presentations, enough fabric to cover an entire NFL football field! Their presentations, which focus on worship and evangelism, have been experienced in five countries, and in forty-five of the United States. They have been featured on two tours with Christian band Casting Crowns, and were nominated for an Emmy award for their work on the “Hands of Hope” television documentary film project in 2012. The ministry strives to lift up the name of Jesus Christ through performance art.
